Jenesis Awards Program

Martine and Bina Rothblatt founded United Therapeutics Corporation when their daughter Jenesis was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

Faced with a stunning lack of information, support, and treatment options, they became committed to providing better therapies, with the goal of finding a cure for this disease.

Jenesis and her story remain the inspiration behind United Therapeutics and the motivation for the Jenesis Awards Program. The Jenesis Awards Program is designed to recognize and award junior investigators dedicated to medical advancement for pulmonary hypertension through independent clinical, preclinical, and outcomes-based research.

Statement of Purpose

The Jenesis Innovative Research Awards provide support to US- or Canada-based investigators who are engaged in innovative research that will advance scientific knowledge and enhance patient care in pulmonary hypertension (PH), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and lung transplantation. The program encourages submissions exploring topics in health equity, determinants of health, and marginalized populations. These awards are intended for junior faculty who are in the early stages of their career. Applicants must be part of an appropriate research group and under the supervision of a qualified mentor. Three awards of up to $100,000 each are issued annually.

The Jenesis Trailblazer Awards recognize exceptional US- or Canada-based women researchers or clinicians who have completed innovative research in the fields of PH, IPF, and lung transplantation. These awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate the development of women leaders as well as to feed the talent pipeline by recognizing women at critical points in their careers. Nominate an outstanding colleague, mentor, or mentee. Two non-monetary awards are issued annually.

Therapeutic Areas of Focus

  • Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
  • Pulmonary Hypertension Associated with Interstitial Lung Disease
  • Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
  • Lung Transplantation
